Planting Seeds of Education

In the small voluntary market, individuals, companies, or governments purchase carbon offsets to mitigate their own greenhouse gas emissions. For example, an individual might purchase carbon offsets to compensate for the greenhouse gas emissions caused by personal air travel. Note the word “purchase” which means that a monetary transaction is intended to take place, but how much of that money ends up in the offset project? Read more about how The Sustainable Energy Society of Southern Africa (SESSA) will turn this concept on its head. [read more]

African Wildlife

Africa WildlifeThink of Africa and you immediately think of its wildlife. There are a number of game parks within driving and flying distance of Johannesburg, ranging in price and exclusivity. Most of these parks include the Big Five (lion, elephant, rhinoceros, buffalo and leopard). In the north-east of the country and a 5-hour drive or 1.5-hour plane journey is the Kruger National Park, one of the oldest and largest reserves in Africa. It boasts a tremendous variety of game and birdlife in its numerous habitats, and offers a variety of accommodation options, game drives and guided walking trails. Madikwe Game Reserve, which also includes the Big Five, is situated in a malaria free area, a 3-hour drive to the north-west of Johannesburg. If you would rather combine the safari scene with a bit of sparkle, book in at the Pilanesberg National Park situated next to Sun City and just under a 2-hour drive or a short plane hop from Johannesburg.
