
Rabbi TanzerIn 1963 an invitation was extended to Rabbi Tanzer to become associate Rosh Yeshiva to Rabbi Kossowsky z'tl. After the passing of Rabbi Kossowsky in 1964 , Rabbi Avraham Tanzer was appointed 2 years later as Rosh Yeshiva in 1966.With Rabbi Tanzer at the helm the school it has become one of the premier Jewish educational institutions in the country and worldwide. The school numbers have grown steadily on an annual basis . Yeshva College offers schooling from playschool through to high school where the boys and girls have separate schooling on the same campus. Rabbi Tanzer originates from Brooklyn, New York where he attended a religious school - Torah Ve Da'as . He went on to the Telshe Yeshiva in Cleveland Ohio. He married Marcia in 1959 and they have six children and many grandchildren. Rabbi Tanzer was the force behind the establishment of the Yeshiva College Hebrew Congregation overseeing the the integration of the school and shul into one campus initially unique in South Africa. He is the longest serving rabbi in the country. Rabbi Tanzer has occupied many prestigious positions in various aspects of communal work. Today he is still active on the SA Jewish Board of Deputies. He is Vice President of The South African Rabbinical Association. |
