Yeshiva College Primary School is focused on high academic achievement across all levels of education, combining excellence in General Studies with a true Torah Education. This focus, together with the love for the State of Israel and the Jewish Community at large, instills in each child a unique set of values, essential to Jewish life and a successful future. Parents and teachers work closely together in achieving this objective, thereby enriching the path of education for all children.

Curriculum

Limudei Kodesh
Limudei Kodesh is the backbone of Yeshiva Primary School , providing pupils with a sound knowledge of their Jewish Faith and value system; a strong connection to Israel and a solid foundation of Torah Studies. This is achieved through the following:
  • Daily early morning davening
  • Torah values and Jewish traditions
  • Chumash with Rashi
  • Hebrew reading and writing
  • Ivrit – conversing in Hebrew
  • Teaching of Dinim(laws and customs)
  • Parashat Hashavua (weekly Torah Portion)
  • Mishnah and Gemara – from grade 3 - 6
  • Commitment to the state of Israel and to the wider South African Jewish community in general

General Studies
Yeshiva College Primary school General Studies curriculum follows the guidelines of the Department of Education as set down by the G D E, and is organised into the following main areas of learning:

  • English and the development of essential literacy skills as the first language
  • Hebrew the second language and Afrikaans as the third language
  • Mathematics and numeracy skills
  • Social and natural sciences
  • Life Skills
  • Economic and Management Sciences
  • Technology, Life Orientation, Arts and culture
  • Computer education
  • Physical Education
  • Library

Extra Curricular Activities
Yeshiva College Primary School offers a wide range of both sporting and non-sporting extra curricular activities for both girls and boys. Learners are encouraged to participate in at least one of the following activities:

School begins at 07h40 Monday – Friday for all grades.

School finishing times:

Grade 1: 13h30 - Monday to Friday
Grade 2: 14h00 - Monday to Thursday; 13h30 Friday
Grades 3 – 6: 14h30 - Monday to Thursday; 14h00 Friday
